Honestly the cover promise is fully delivered. But underneath the swoon it's a serious book about what you owe your family versus yourself.
The middle stretch of them apart went on longer than it needed to for me. Everything else is lovely — the banter is genuinely funny and the emotional beats land.
Classic Abby Jimenez tonal whiplash in the best way. You're laughing about a kitten and then the book puts a hand on your chest. Samantha asking him to forget her destroyed me.
He says the wrong thing spectacularly in chapter two and I wasn't sure he could come back from it. He does. The grovel is well earned.
One perfect date and then real life crashes in. The family crisis is handled with so much care — this is a romance that takes caregiving seriously, which almost none of them do. Cried twice.
