MXTX balances comedy and tragedy better than almost anyone. Be prepared for a commitment — this is volume one of eight — but it's worth it.
I was worried about the localisation and it's very smooth. The footnotes help with the cultural context without being intrusive. Names take a chapter or two to settle.
Volume one is setup and it's still one of the most enjoyable books I read this year. San Lang's introduction is perfect. Immediately ordered volume two.
A god who has ascended and fallen twice, now collecting scrap in heaven, and still fundamentally kind. That characterisation carries the whole thing. The ghost city arc is superb.
