The kind of book that reframes how you read the news. I've recommended it to everyone who'll listen.
There's a lot of context to hold and it took me longer than most nonfiction. Gopal's prose carries you through. Excellent endnotes.
The decision to structure it around a handful of lives is what makes it work. You understand the choices because you understand the people making them.
Gopal builds this out of the lives of ordinary people rather than leaders, and the result is a book about revolution that actually explains how one happens. Painstaking and humane.
